WEED 101: Joints, Spliffs, and Blunts

joints

When I first started smoking it seemed that joints, spliffs, and blunts were all terms used describe a joint. However with a little more time and experience I learned they are in fact unique ways to smoke all with their own flavors and features. Let’s explore them in greater detail below.

Joints
I used to be a hardcore roll-by-hand joint smoker, but when you smoke as much as I do now, it gets old. Just invest in a good roller and one of many options for papers. I prefer hemp but there are many to choose from. PRO TIP: Rollers do use a lot of weed, so you may prefer to roll by hand. The one pictures above is rolled with Jilly Bean and Zig Zag Braunstein Freres cigarette papers, which are smooth on the inhale and burn nicely.

Spliffs
If you already smoke both cigarettes and weed, this may be what you have been looking for. By mixing the tobacco and marijuana about 50-50, you get a nice blend. When smoking you get the initial cigarette rush but it doesn’t go away immediately. The flavors and the aroma of the tobacco combined with the weed makes a wonderful smell and may help mask the marijuana if needed. There are so many fine tobaccos that you can mix with so the possibilities are endless. I don’t smoke tobacco and do not endorse it therefore, I did not smoke one for the article.

Blunts
Blunts are by far a favorite. It used to be that you would have to go to Circle K, buy a box of Swisher Sweets, cut the cigar up for the wrapper and dump the inside out. Then you roll your weed, slobber all over the thing to keep it sealed, and spend a few minutes drying it with a lighter so you can finally smoke it. Not so glamorous a process but worth it if you were willing to put in the effort. Today you can simply go to a local smoke shop and ask for blunt papers. PRO TIP: You should try the old school method at least once. Cheap cigars like Philly Blunts can be hollowed out and stuffed with marijuana and come in a variety of flavors such as chocolate, strawberry, banana, peachy keen, and more. Here I used Green Queen and King Pin 4x hemp wraps cut to size. The King Pin 4x Originals have the sweet cigar smell you all know and love.

The pairing of the Green Queen and hemp wrap complemented each other well mixing the sweet of the wrapper and the flavorful light smoke of the flower. I was pleasantly surprised at how much the hemp wrap felt, handled, and smelled like a sweet cigar wrapper. It also burned much slower than a joint.  PRO TIP: Per Slink Johnson on Comedy Central’s High Court, make sure there is still a little flower so it burns better. I will definitely be smoking these more often.

If you go into any local smoke shop, you should be able to get yourself the tools you need to start rolling and figure out which method suits your personal taste. Be sure to ask questions and for suggestions, that how I always find fun new ways to enjoy flowers. For me, blunt papers are my favorite. HMMM Blunt Betty, I like the sound of that!
